Our Students
Prairie Valley School Division has more than 8,100 students. Over 1,200 are students with special needs who receive a range of supports through a multidisciplinary team that includes speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, consultants and coordinators, as well as outside agencies to remove barriers to education and enhance opportunities to engage in learning. Approximately 1,300 students are self-declared First Nation and Métis students. Over 500 of these students live on First Nations land in the Prairie Valley region. We also have a growing number of immigrant students, as well as our Hutterian students of German origin who attend the two Hutterian schools in Prairie Valley.
 
At Prairie Valley, we believe that good people grow good people. Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff work together to grow the whole student, not simply focus on test scores. As a result, our students are accomplished and diverse in their interests and abilities. Here are some examples of what our students have achieved in the last year:
 
We grow academically successful students
    • Our division's high school graduation rate for the 2014-2015 school year was 84%, almost 10% higher than the provincial average.
We grow athletic students
    • Lumsden High’s senior girls won gold at provincial for curling, a first since 1990
    • Grenfell High student went to provincials for archery
    • Greenall student won the Saskatchewan all-time medal record accumulating 25 medals in her four years of high school (cross country, track and field, wrestling and volleyball)
We grow artistic students
    • 200 band students from 14 schools attended clinics with the U of R and Regina Symphony Orchestra
    • Two Greenall students were chosen for the provincial honour choir
    • Pense student’s poem was published in a collection of 35 schools from around the world
We grow caring students
    • Montmartre students held an art show to help build a school in Ghana
    • 25 schools raised over $23,000 for cancer research through the Terry Fox Run
    • Cupar student won a writing contest and chose Habitat for Humanity to receive a $5,000 grant
