Prairie Valley Board of Education announces the resignation and retirement of Ben Grebinski, Director of Education/CEO, effective September 30, 2018.
Ben has served as Director/CEO for ten years, bringing stability in the post-amalgamation years and then leading the division through a period of significant changes and challenges in Pre-K to 12 education.
“Ben has given ten years of outstanding leadership to Prairie Valley and the Board of Education is very grateful for his service,” said Board Chair Janet Kotylak. “He has provided the Board with sound analysis and counsel, loyal professional service and has capably advanced the Board’s strategic direction.”
As a system, under Ben’s leadership, we have….
❖ Created more opportunities for a growing student enrolment by introducing magnet programming, TASCAP, French immersion and Learning from the Land and expanding practical and applied arts, athletics and arts offerings to engage and challenge students.
❖ Engaged with students, staff, First Nations education authorities, parents and the general public to build confidence in public education and invite input into our programs and plans.
❖ Articulated a vision and implementation plan for safe and inclusive learning and work environments that welcome human diversity.
❖ Developed deep capacity in curriculum, instruction, assessment and learning supports and implemented a direct service delivery model that is guided by data and student needs.
❖ Expanded school-based staffing with instructional supports, intervention supports, instructional team coaches and, just recently, lower PTRs in early grades.
❖ Refreshed buildings to create safe and inviting spaces to teach and learn, opened a new school, created spaces that reflect and honour First Nations cultures and modernized furniture and equipment.
❖ Integrated technology into instruction with a Smart Board in every classroom, laptops for teachers and a broader range and greater quantity of technology devices for students.
❖ Developed a safety-focused transportation system with GPS on buses, a robust driver training and development program and an up to date fleet of buses and other vehicles.
❖ Created an integrated and aligned organizational structure that provides opportunities for our staff to grow and develop in their careers.
Ben’s work ethic, passion and commitment are grounded in his deep belief in the power of education to improve people’s lives. His ten years with Prairie Valley School Division cap off a career spanning more than 40 years as a classroom teacher, vice principal, principal, superintendent and director of education as well as extensive involvement provincially and nationally.
“Ben leaves Prairie Valley with a solid education service delivery model and in a financially sound position for the future. He has led a strong administrative team who will continue to play an integral role in the operation of the school division,” Kotylak said
The Board of Education thanks Ben for his service and accomplishments and wishes him all the best in the years ahead. The Board will begin the process of filling the Director of Education/CEO position immediately.
