Celebrating Strong Results in Student Achievement

December 13, 2018

Prairie Valley School Division has officially released the 2017-2018 Community Report, which outlines some of the Division’s strongest results to date.

“The Board sets the strategic plan and this report informs us of the progress we are making against that plan. We are proud to see a lot of progress with student achievement, which is a top priority for the Board,” said Board of Education Chair, Janet Kotylak. “We also recognize the role we play in bringing the voice of the public to public education. In 2017-2018, the Board engaged with our First Nation and Métis partners and other governments, supported School Community Councils and worked to build community engagement through social media. We recognize and thank our students and staff for their dedication and congratulate them in achieving some of the Division’s best results to date.”

 Highlights from the year include:

  • Student academic achievement is at an all-time high.
  • Students are graduating at a rate 10 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
  • Continued high attendance rates.
  • Reading and math scores remain strong.
  • Strong emergency response protocols are in place.
  • Transportation is safe and reliable and support services remained strong.
  • Continued, strong expenditure management.

“While Prairie Valley staff, Board, students, parents and guardians and community members should be very proud of the system performance results, they should be equally proud of the Division’s progress in continuing to grow an inclusive, caring and kind school division,” said Luc Lerminiaux, who took over as Director of Education effective December 1, 2018. “In 2017-2018, Prairie Valley welcomed a growing population of English-as-an-additional-language students, supported Indigenous programming and events significant to First Nations people, continued to build food services to nourish students and hosted information nights on mental health, to name a few. I am confident that through the good work of the Board of Education and the dedication of its employees, Prairie Valley School Division will continue to thrive and grow."

The 2017-2018 Community Report is a companion document to the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan and 2017-2018 Budget and is the primary mechanism to report on the outcomes and commitments noted in the plan and to inform instruction for the next school year. The 2017-2018 Community Report is at www.pvsd.ca under Publications and available in print upon request.
