The fifth annual Prairie Valley Drop Everything and Read Challenge (DEAR) was held on January 17, 2012 at Balgonie Elementary School.
During the past four years, the Prairie Valley School Division Board of Education has challenged all Prairie Valley schools to participate in a system-wide DEAR challenge.
With nearly 100 per cent participation of staff and students, the DEAR challenges have been a great success. Last year, Prairie Valley students and staff read for a total of 3,060 hours on the day of the challenge.
This challenge continues to highlight the School Division's focus on Higher Literacy and Achievement.
The date of the challenge is aligned with Family Literacy Day, which takes place on January 27, 2012.
This year the theme for Family Literacy Day was "Taking the Learning Journey."
Schools were encouraged to take this journey by reading about various countries around the world.
