Prairie Valley School Division has developed a new secondary course selection process for students currently in grades 9 to 11. This process will provide all grade 9 to 11 students an opportunity to contribute ideas for courses offered and the opportunity to access a variety of course selections in their home school and/or region.
The first part of the process will take place from November 1-14. Career counsellors in the schools will present course information to all students in grades 9 to 11 and following the presentation, students will take a paper copy of the survey home to discuss with their parents. Students will bring this signed form back to their school before November 14. From November 14-23, students will complete an on-line interest survey and indicate courses they are interested in taking. It is important to note that this is an interest survey only and final course registration will be completed in the New Year.
The results of the survey will help determine which courses could potentially be offered in schools, in various regions or by distance education. Facility, technology, staffing and transportation needs will also all be considered when making final decisions regarding course offerings. Parents will be provided information prior to official course registration and be involved when official class registration begins. The process will be completed with students receiving a timetable prior to leaving for summer break.
We are excited to know what courses students are interested in, and to begin planning for the 2012 - 2013 school year.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your school’s administration or the school career counsellor.
