When it comes to school spirit, nothing compares to the energetic students and staff of our very own Kipling School. Whether it be in sporting events, honourable mentions, scholar excellence or the simplicity of celebrating a special moment, Kipling School students and their teachers have a unique way of sharing their school pride.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25, students from Kindergarten to grade 12 filled the gymnasium in anticipation of the exciting Pep Rally in honour of the Boys Soccer Team's most recent accomplishment and the accomplishments of the schools various sports teams throughout the first half of the school season.
The elementary students stood around a half-circle shaped track for the athletes to do their victory run, the young students waited in anticipation with their hands extended out for congratulatory high-fives from their admired sports heroes. The students became animated with energy as they learned the Magyar Dance to the song "Fireball," eventually being unison with their newly developed dance. Speeches by coaches of the School teams addressing the accomplishments thus far had the crowd cheering during the Pep Rally. Four teachers including Kayla Lamport, Kara Taylor, Jason Kovach, Mariah Perkins and Sarah Kirkness were sacrificed to a pie in the face by more than eager students.
The celebrated Kipling School Boys Soccer Team, ranging in grades 9-12, were one in 16 teams fiercly playing their way for an opportunity to compete in the Provincial Tournament. They earned their spot thanks to the dedication and soccer spunk of their amazing team players, led by Coaches Mariah Perkins and Chris Weeding. The roster for the 2017 legends include Kurtis Doud, Darrien Ruthven, Braydon Vickers, Hayden Scott-McCarthy, Logan McCarthy, Teagen Biette, Carson Roth, Kayla Munro, Luke Zepick, Rory Weeding, Terence Stanley, Anthony Truant, Dean Moore, Shawn Puffalt and Carlin Rajotte.
The Boys Soccer Team packed up and hit the road early Friday morning to attend the 2017 Provincial Soccer Tournament.
"The Kipling Magyar Soccer team made it to provincials this year out of the 16 teams in the 2A boys league in the province," shares Perkins. School pride puts it lightly in an accomplishment such as this, being as they were one of nine teams to make it to Provincial standings.
"The team played their first game against Yorkton Sacred Heart at 9am in Yorkton on Friday and played incredibly hard despite the cold, the slippery soccer field and only having one sub to relieve players with. They played extremely well, especially in the second half when they only allowed a handful of shots on net and were able to keep possession more in the opponent's end."
The students took an hour and a half break to warm themselves and prepare for their next game against Luther College High School from Regina. "Again, Kipling played hard this game," adds Perkins. "Carlin Rajotte scored a goal right towards the end of the second half just after a Kipling player came off the field due to an injury."
The students may not have brought home a provincial trophy but they brought an exceptional amount of experience and irreplaceable memories. "We are so incredibly proud of how they played!"
