Due to the aging sewer main at the kindergarten to grade four school, it has been discovered that a fracture exists in the line under the structural slab of the building. This has been some of the reason for the line blockages we have been experiencing over the past week. Due to this, invasive work will be required to repair this system.
Along with structural and mechanical engineers, as well as contractors, our school division’s facilities department is presently investigating the best option to replace this system in a safe, timely and cost effective manner. The current state of the washrooms is that they are operable. A venting issue caused some odor today but it has since been rectified.
When work does commence, the washrooms will be inaccessible. As we anticipate this to begin soon, a Portable Restroom Trailer, which is both heated and has hot/cold water, will be installed at the elementary building. We anticipate that this trailer will arrive on Monday, November 23, 2015. Additionally, alternative plans will need to be made as necessary to accommodate this work including accessing the building through the East doors only. Further details will be forwarded as they become available.
As during the recent roof replacement, classes will continue as per usual. Although we anticipate that some changes in daily routines will need to be made, staff will be working with students to ensure that they are safe and that programming will be delivered as seamlessly as possible.
Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
