WCS School Mascot
WCS has a new school mascot. As of today his name is "Willy". Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.
Carmen Campagne Attends WCS
White City K-2 French immersion students, grade 4 students, and 145 French immersion students from École Wilfred Walker were recently entertained by Carmen Campagne. École Wilfred Walker was invited, in part, to develop partnerships with other immersion schools. The staff and students from both schools were not only entertained, but also participated in this spectacle. A good time was had by all. C’etait fantastique!
Junior Boys' Basketball District Champions
On Saturday, March 17, 2012, the Junior Boys’ Basketball Team won the District Championship by defeating Balgonie Elementary with a final score of 53-46. This year’s win is White City School’s third consecutive year as district champions. Congratulations to Mr. Gawley and all of the team players.
White City Champions
White City School has captured the Prairie Valley School Division Elementary Girls' Volleyball Championship. Teams from White City, Balgonie, Lumsden and Pilot Butte progressed through the playoffs to meet in the final tournament which took place on November 19, 2011 at Pilot Butte Elementary School.
Saskatchewan Roughrider Visit
Alex Holtzman (3M) won a school visit with his favourite Saskatchewan Roughrider, #60 Gene Makowsky. On Wednesday, November 29, 2011, the Grade 3 children were fortunate to visit with this famous Roughrider. Mr. Makowsky spoke with all of the Grade 3 classes about his life as a Roughrider, a teacher, a Dad and a husband. He talked to them about the importance of family. He let the children know that everything in life should come second after their families. The students were very appreciative of his visit and were able to hold his helmet and view his large and sparkly Grey Cup ring. They were also gifted with a poster and his autograph. What a special afternoon!
Education Week - Cyber Safety
Students in grades 5-8 participated in a Cyber Safety presentation led by Mr. Ireland, PVSD Technology Consultant. Through conversations with several grade 8 students, Tyler commented how he was amazed at how quickly a person’s identity may be tracked on the Internet. Travis added to this statement, “One piece of information may provide leads for other details so we need to be very careful as to how much personal information we put on the Internet.” Sarah emphasized the importance of never sharing your passwords, even with people you trust. In conclusion the grade 8 students summarized, the Internet is a powerful tool we use for learning and making connections throughout the world but we must use this tool wisely.
Education Week - Grandparents' Day
During Education Week we had over 475 grandparents join us to celebrate K-4 achievements. Grandparents gathered in the gymnasium where the students had the opportunity to present classroom performances including chants, reader’s theater and songs. Following the presentation, grandparents visited their grandchild’s classroom to observe some work their grandchild had completed and met the classroom teacher. Thank you to our school community council members Carla Ellert, Tricia Slobodian, Verna Barabe, Heather Calvert, and Kelley Rumpel for providing coffee, juice and treats for our grandparents. A special thank you goes out to all our Grandparents who traveled from near (from White City) and far (Pakistan, Fruitvale, B.C.) to be part of this special celebration of achievements.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day
On Monday, October 17, our local route drivers were invited to school in appreciation of the great work they do transporting the students safely to and from school. They were treated with coffee and cookies on behalf of our School Community Council. We recognize the huge responsibility school bus drivers have on a daily basis. Please have a conversation with your son/daughter about student conduct on the bus. We ask that students remain seated and use their indoor voice when communicating with others. Horse play on the bus can easily cause driver distraction making their job extremely challenging.
French Immersion Storytime
White City School Library staff, Mrs. Hewitt, along with the creative mind of Mrs. Wright, embrace the new French immersion programming. Mrs. Hewitt reads and acts out a French book from a series of books about Galette from the authors Lisa Rousseau and Marie-Claude Favreau. The French immersion students in grade 1 and 2 were not only entertained, but they actively participated in this fun, educational experience.
White City School

We have found that teachers and parents working together can create the best learning culture for our students. We welcome parent input and support as we work to meet our school goals.
We are very proud and excited to offer French Immersion programming to our grades K-2 students. We have approximately 40 students enrolled in this program. The foundation of the French Immersion program goes beyond learning about French, rather learning through French enabling students to function with ease in both English and French. We look forward to providing this opportunity for our students and sharing their experiences and achievements in the near future.
