Career Education

Career Education is compulsory for students in grades 6-9. Students receive 50 minutes of Career Education instruction per week at each grade level; or 30 hours annually.

The Goals of Career Education are to:

  • develop career management competencies through an exploration of personal change and growth
  • explore the connections between learning and work pathways and their connections to community
  • engage in inquiry to construct a personal life and work plan

Prairie Valley School Division uses myBlueprint as the foundational Career and Life Planning Tool in Grades 6-12. All PVSD students have a myBlueprint account that can be used for self-discovery, setting goals, understanding career pathways, building skills inventories, high school planning, exploring post-secondary options, portfolio development and budgeting for the future.

Features of myBlueprint can be found here.

Graduation and Post-Graduation Planning

By the end of Grade 9, each Prairie Valley School Division student will generate a plan for graduation. They will work with their Career Education Teachers, Career Counsellors and Learning Supports Teachers to come up with a plan that is tailored to their needs.

Career Education elements of the Graduation and Post-Graduation Plan are available below.  These elements extend beyond grade 9 and provide a framework for students to work towards in high school.
Students will create a Graduation Plan Portfolio using myBlueprint to showcase their progress.
