The Ministries of Health and Education in Saskatchewan are taking steps to improve children's oral health by increasing access to dental care, particularly preventive services for children at risk.
In the 2011-2012 school year, dental sealants and fluoride varnishes will be provided for Kindergarten and Grade One students who attend schools that have been identified as "at risk".
The enhanced service will include oral health screening, referral and follow up, fluoride varnish and dental sealant, to be delivered by a dental health team consiting of Dental Health Educators and Dental Assistants.
If you child is in Kindergarten or Grade one, the consent form has been sent home. Please return them to the school by January 9, 2012. Oral screening, dental sealants, and fluordie varnish will only be performed on students who have returned a consent form. This program is completely voluntary, and of no cost to individual families or your school. All children screened wil also receive a letter for thier parents/caregivers after the screening, outlining any conditions in the mouth that were seen that require treatment beyond dental sealants and fluoride varnish that can be completed at school.
The dental team is scheduled to be at McLean School January 9 and 10, 2012.
