AWARDS AND AWARDS DAY
Whitewood School Academic Awards:
For Grades 7-9, the Whitewood School Proficiency Award, Academic Awards and Principal's Honour Roll will be based upon the average obtained from ELA, Math, Science, Social, Art or Band, PE, and Health.
For Grades 10 – 12, the Whitewood School Proficiency Award,
Academic Awards and Principal's Honour Roll will be based upon the average obtained from
the following subjects:
2 English credits (1 English credit in Grade 11)
1 Social Science
4 electives (5 electives for Grade 11)
Note: A student must be taking nine subjects to be eligible and averages must be over 80% to receive academic medal awards. Regardless of course level, courses taken during the current school year will be eligible in the student's average. Every second year, Grade 12 students are not required to take a Science Credit. In these years, 5 electives will be used to calculate their averages.
*All averages are based on full percentages from individual classes and then the overall average will be rounded to one decimal place.
Principal's Honour Roll: Any grade 7-12 student who has achieved 84.5% or higher in the
criteria recorded above, will have their name inscribed on a "scroll" that will be posted in
Whitewood School and will receive an honour roll medal.
Whitewood School Proficiency Award – The top academic average from grades 7-9 and 10-12 based on the above criteria will be awarded with a plaque.
Grade 10, 11, 12 Subject Area Awards
One award per subject area listed below will be presented to students who have a mark of 84.5% or greater. *Any course taken in the Grade 11 year will count as a grade 11 credit and any course taken in a grade 12 year will count as a grade 12 credit.( See * below) The student with the top mark out of the courses listed in each grade below will receive this award:
1. ELA – Gr. 10 – ELA 10A, ELA 10B
Grade 11 – ELA 20
Grade 12 ELA A30, ELA B30
2. Math – Gr. 10 – Workplace and Apprenticeship 10, Pre-Calculus 10
Grade 11 – W&A 20, PC 20, Foundations 20
Grade 12- W&A 30, PC 30, FDN 30 and Calculus 30
3. Science – Gr. 10 – Science 10
Grade 11 – Any 20/21 level Science*
Grade 12 - Any 30/31 level Science*
4. Social Studies – Gr. 10 – Native Studies 10
Gr. 11- History 20, Psychology 20/30
Gr. 12 – Social Studies 30
5. Physical Education – Gr. 10 – Wellness
Grade 11 – 20 level
Grade 12 – 30 level
6. PAA – Gr 10/11/12 – Top mark in any PAA courses taken during the year for each grade
Sports Award: The Sports Award will be awarded on a school-wide basis. Students in Grades 7-9 must participate in 3 or more school sports or advance beyond the basic level of competition. Students in Grades 10-12 must participate in 2 or more school sports or advance beyond the basic level of competition.
Band Awards: These awards will be given to students who participate in band based on the criteria from the band director.
Congeniality Award: Congeniality awards will be awarded to one Grade 7-9 student and one Grade 10-12 student who is courteous and respectful to staff and students, and demonstrates a cooperative and positive attitude throughout the school.
Dilligence Award: Diligence awards will be awarded to any Grade 7-9 students who exhibit determination, good work ethic, consistently hand in assignments on time, and a desire to succeed.
Sport Specific Awards: Our school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Awards will be given in each activity to students who exhibit exemplary performance, positive attitude, and cooperation as determined by their coach(es). Some examples of the awards that may be given but not limited to are: Most Valuable Player, Sportsmanship, Hustle, Team Player, Most Dedicated, Digger, Most Improved. One to three awards will be given per team.
Club Awards: Our school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs. Awards will be given to students who participate and demonstrate dedication, positive attitude, and cooperation as determined by each club.
Perfect Attendance Award – The perfect attendance award will be awarded to any student in Grade 7-12 who attended every day.
To recognize students who have achieved a high degree of academic excellence.
To recognize leadership provided by students regarding school sports, government and
positive school involvement.
To identify students who have achieved perfect attendance throughout the year.
