Originally signed on September 15, 1874, Treaty 4 was entered into by representatives of the British Crown and the nêhiyawak, Nakota, and Saulteaux peoples.
The annual gathering is organized by the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council, with support from surrounding First Nations, local organizations, and Bert Fox Community High School.
This year’s gathering began with a Feast, which was moved indoors to the Bert Fox gym due to rainy weather. Over the following three days, more than 2,000 students from schools throughout the region attended the gathering and participated in a wide range of cultural and educational activities. These included land-based learning, traditional cooking such as bannock-making, beading workshops, and opportunities to learn from Elders about the histories of Indigenous people in the territory. The Treaty 4 Gathering ends with a Traditional Powwow celebration every year.
