The Canadian Mental Health Association states that 1 in 5 Canadians will personally experience a mental health issue in any given year. Mental health refers to a state of well-being and includes our emotions, feelings of connection to others, our thoughts and feelings, and being able to manage life’s highs and lows. Youth is a critical time for supporting mental wellness. Most mental illnesses begin prior to the age of 18. In Canada only 1 in 5 children are able to access appropriate mental health supports.  (CMHA, 2021).
