Playing Around and Minister Visits

Monday, September 28 brought excitement, and the Minister of Education and MLA McLeod, to Prairie Valley schools! The opportunity to show off the wonderful students and their work within our Division is one we relish.

Extremely knowledgeable students provided a tour of South Shore School to local MLA Blaine McLeod, Board Vice Chair Terry Berglund, and local Board representative Charla Sebastian.

Playground Grand Opening

Grade 1 students at École Lumsden Elementary school were joined by local funders and dignitaries to celebrate the grand opening of their new playground including Minister of Education, The Honourable Everett Hindley; MLA Blaine McLeod; Mayor of Lumsden, His Worship Verne Barber; R.M of Lumsden, Reeve Cody Garbutt; Vice Chair, Prairie Valley Board of Education, Terry Berglund; Board Member, Charla Sebastian; Prairie Valley Director of Education, Cory Popoff; Lumsden District Lions Club's Tracy Aulie; and, École Lumsden Elementary School School Community Council members Jill Weber and Leah Hermanson.

Speakers recognized the importance of the playground highlighting its immediate popularity with students and the community. Student attendees cheered as dignitaries guessed which piece of playground equipment was the most popular to win the privilege of using the giant gold scissors in the ribbon cutting - an honour won by the Division's own Mr. Popoff - as pictured in the feature photo.

Following the playground celebration, dignitaries were treated to a tour of the school. The tour included the gym, numerous classrooms, and the new Gaga court. (For those who don't know - this is an outdoor octagon version of dodgeball, and very popular)

With a short walk, the tour continued next door at Lumsden High School. The opportunity to see student learning in action was bolstered by the ongoing career fair where students explored potential next steps in their learning journey. However, the highlight of the tour may have been the new python in the science lab.
